After unlocking the ability to travel to other worlds, I decided to visit Moana’s world first, one of my favorite Disney movies. Returning to the village I wanted to build Moana’s house near the water, but I hadn’t unlocked the beach yet. Took me ages to figure out how to move buildings but you’ll be happy to know, if you did something similar to me, you can move buildings freely at any time, without any cost or punishment.

How To Move Items & Buildings In Disney Dreamlight Valley

If you want to move buildings or items of furniture you simply need to open the Furniture screen. Open the main menu, where you see Inventory, Wardrobe, and Furniture, and then select the Furniture option. This will bring up a screen of all the different categories.

Don’t choose a category. Instead, look at the edge of the category box. There is a button here with an arrow. On PlayStation, it’s the Triangle button. Press that button and the Categories page closes, leaving a floating hand in its place. You can now select any building or object you’ve placed down and move it freely.

How To Remove The Second Magic Gate In Disney Dreamlight Valley

So the first gate is pretty simple, you just need the right color gems for each statue.

The next one requires a bit more thinking. You will need to get three different kinds of seeds and plant them here. You will need Wheat Seeds, tomato seeds, and carrot seeds. I’m not sure if the order you plant them in matters or not, but I did tomato, carrot, and then wheat and it worked for me. You will have to come back and water the plants a few times and once they fully grow the door will open for you.

Now grab the veggies that you just grew and go to door number three. Use the stove there to combine the tomato, carrot, and wheat to make some veggie pasta. Eat it and the last door will be removed. Fish up the power orb and leave the cave. Use the orb on the shadow pillar outside and you will beat this part of the quest.

As Merlin tells you in the game, Dream Shards are gathered from removing the Night Thorns from around the village – the dark purple thorns that grow everywhere. Each time you remove one there’s a chance you will get an item. Usually, you get a single coin or something basic but sometimes you get Dream Shards .

However, as announced in an in-game mail today, Dream Shards are not dropping at the correct rate. Rather than address the problem, the developers have instead opted for a temporary fix by giving all players 25 Dream Shards. You can find these Dream Shards at your house in the village. Interact with the mailbox to claim your Dream Shard items.

SAVE THESE! Do not use them on anything but progressing through the story later otherwise there’s a good chance you’ll get stuck and not be able to progress.

Once people join your island you can start doing quests for them, joining them doing activities, and giving them gifts. Joining them on activities is a great way to increase the amount of resources you gain and it does increase your friendship rating, but there’s a quicker way.

If you want to quickly and easily get higher level friendships with other characters, just gather up flowers. As many as you can. If one spawns, grab it. You can then simply use the flowers over and over again, and this works on any character, to get a decent boost to their friendship level. This works excellently up to about level 5 and then it does slow down, but that’s everything you need to complete the Friendship is Everything quest.

When you first start out you can give gifts to anyone after you do their introductory quest. However, at first, it’s a bit of a blind gamble. You need to follow the story, specifically Merlin’s quest chain. He will eventually talk to you about the pillars in the garden that have become corrupted. After this, you can give Merlin a gift.

Disney Dreamlight Valley Gift Giving Guide


Give Merlin a Dreamlight Shard, these are blue shards in your inventory. This is one of Merlin’s favorite gifts on most days. You will see a huge friendship increase. From this point forward, you will now get a Favorite Things of the Day box whenever you speak to a character.

These are three items that, for a single day, will offer a huge bonus to friendship levels when given. These change daily so it’s a good idea to get a stock of all of the items so you can give them to characters when those same items roll back around.

Cooking in Disney’s Dreamlight Valley is one of the more exciting parts of the game. There are tons of recipes, tons of ingredients, all sorts of things you can combine and cook. A lot of the food helps with your characters energy levels and various meals and food items are used in quests throughout the game. You’ll be doing a lot of cooking if you plan on playing the game for any length of time.

How To Unlock Cooking & Prepare Meals In Disney Dreamlight Valley


Thankfully, you can unlock cooking really early in the game. Follow the starting story mission to find all of the tools. Once you’ve gathered all of the tools head to Mickey’s house. It’s the house directly opposite your own house. Once inside speak with Mickey and begin his quest chain.

There are a series of quests here but they are all very easy and Mickey will guide you through them. It’s a basic introduction to the farming and cooking system. At the end of the quest chain Mickey will give you a stove. You can then use the stove to begin creating recipes and preparing foods.

Storage is something you will struggle with just hours after starting the game. Your character’s inventory size is very limited and the chest inside your house doesn’t offer much additional space either. Thankfully, however, there is a location you can reach very early that will teach you a recipe that you can use to make Storage chests. You can then make as many of these as you wish and place them wherever you like.

How To Get More Storage In Disney Dreamlight Valley


Head to the Meadow, this is where Goofy hangs out and where you can find his stall. Near the stall there’s a house. At the side of the house there is a workbench. You can interact with this workbench to craft bits of furniture outside. This is also where you unlock the storage recipe.

Simply approach the bench and select the Storage option. This will let you craft a chest that you can then use to store more items.

Before you’re able to learn to fish you first need a key item, the fishing rod. Following the main story you will find a broken fishing rod. You will then get a quest with goofy that gives you the opportunity to repair the fishing rod. Once it’s repaired you can the begin to use the fishing rod to fish up some fish.

How To Fish In Disney Dreamlight Valley


It’s a bit finicky. When you approach a body of water you will see a small circle in the water if there are fish to catch. The first thing you need to do is cast your rod so that it lands inside the circle. You’ll know it’s correct when the lure becomes centered in the circle on the water.

You then need to wait for a small mark to appear on the water and press the X key (PlayStation). You then get a timing mini-game. As the two circles align, press the Pull button shown in the lower left corner (Square on PlayStation). Do this enough times and you will catch a fish.

When you are in the kitchen there’s a lot of the items you need here already. Head over to the vegetable shelves and grab yourself a bunch of Eggplants and Zucchini. Then you want to head over to the shelves with the butter on, but grab a bunch of onions.

How To Make Ratatouille in Disney Dreamlight Valley


You will also need to grab some Basil or Oregano. Then grab some tomato’s. It doesn’t have to be in the exact order but the ingredients you need to make the Ratatouille is Tomato, Egg Plant, Zucchini, Onion, and Basil or Oregano.

Simply throw all of those into the cooking pot and you will complete the quest.
