Destiny: The Taken King Quest Guide
I am doing this as I go so check back soon for updates!
Quest Location: The Speaker at the Tower Quest Level: 34+ Quest Requirements: Must have VIP status – Either being level 30 or owning the game and both DLC’s in year one by August 31st. If you don’t have it already, you can’t get it. Quest Rewards: Various items and shaders
Quest Location: The Reef, Vestian Outpost. Speak to Petra Quest Level: 34+, Complete The Coming War story quest Quest Guide: Speak with Variks the Loyal then head to the Patrol Earth mission. You need to fight and kill Fallen Lieutenants to summon Taken Champions. You have to seek them out at the Divide, Skywatch and Rocketyard. You collect Fallen Ether from killing Fallen Enemies and Blighted Ether from killing Blighted Taken enemies. The only place you’re able to find Blighted Taken enemies is from Patrol Missions on Earth. The Patrol Mission is marked by a skull & crossbones. We found ours in the Mothyards and The Steppes.
Make sure you pay attention to on-screen notifications. They will tell you when the Taken are attacking an area, a Fallen Lieutenant spawns and a Taken Champion spawns. When you see the Taken are attacking you need to pay attention and kill all Fallen Lieutenants or the Taken Champions will not spawn.
UPDATE: After several hours trying Patrol Missions and searching Earth we randomly came across a Public Event. Several Taken spawn, including the Fallen Lieutenants you need to complete the quest. Defeat the Fallen to make a Taken Champion spawn. You will only get one so you will have to do the Public Event twice. One of the Champions drops an item, this fills the requirements for the mission entirely. We’ve spent 3+ hours on Earth and only came across this once, it was in The Divide. It may make a difference but we found it after returning following the mission where you explore the Cabal ship.
Once you’ve completed the Earth side of this quest return to Petra to start the next one, this time you’re heading to Venus. Much like the Earth mission you need to find a Public Event/spawn of enemies before taking down Fallen Lieutenants to make a Taken Champion spawn. We found the first event on Ishtar Cliffs, just near the large circular gate area with the Vex. It spawned here roughly every 5-10 minutes. We were killing stuff in the area during that time. There are also spawns in The Shattered Coast area too.
Next up is Mars. Very similar to Earth and Venus. Using the same techniques to locate and defeat the Fallen. Our first event popped at The Barrens, another in The Barrens about 10 minutes later followed immediately by another in the Scablands.
Once you’ve completed the above stages you unlock Taken Bounties with Petra Venj.
Quest Location: Eris Morn at the Tower Quest Level: 34+, must find at least 1 Calcified Fragment to obtain the quest. Do not pick up more than 1 before speaking to Eris as users are reporting a bug that finding more before getting the first quest don’t count. Quest Guide: There are literally loads of these to find. We’ve compiled a guide purely for this quest with images for the ones we’ve found so far.
