Your Clearance Level is a security measure tied to you throughout the entirety of Control. Open your menu and check the Assets tab. Here you will see a number of details, one of which is your Clearance Level. Once you reach a specific Clearance Level you can access all areas of that particular security level, it is not a one-time use access card.

How To Unlock Clearance Level 01 Door In Control

You are unable to unlock the first Clearance Level 01 door you encounter for some time. You need to progress through the main story until near the end of the second mission. You are tasked with finding the Hotline. It’s part of the main story, you cannot miss the first clearance level.

Once you have progressed far enough to unlock it, simply return and open the door.

Increasing your Clearance Level is required if you want to open all the secret security doors. This guide tells you How To Get Clearance Level 1 Card In Control so you can increase your Clearance Level to one and open the doors that require that level of clearance.

At any point you can open the menu and navigate to the Assets tab. This shows you both your current Materials and your Clearance Level rank. When you first start the game, you do not have any level of clearance so you are unable to access any doors that are behind Clearance Level locks.

How To Get Clearance Level 1 Card In Control

How To Get Clearance Level 1 Card In Control
To obtain the first key card and reach Clearance Level 1, follow the main story until you reach the second mission. This is when you are tasked with going to the Mail Room so you can pass through to reach the Secure Line.

The entrance to the Mail Room is locked behind a Clearance Level 1 security lock. Nearby, there is a dead guard on the floor. If you search the item near his body you will find the first card and increase your Clearance Level to 1. Once you have this one, you’ll want Clearance Level 2.

Your Clearance Level rating in control can be found in the Assets options of the main menu. It is a security level clearance that is tied to your ability to enter areas of the corresponding areas of security clearance. Clearance Level 1 allows you to access level 1 doors, level 2, and so forth.

How To Get Clearance Level 2 In Control

Much like the first Clearance Level, the Clearance Level 2 access is tied to the main story of the game. It’s during the third mission, when you are tasked with heading down the elevator to meet the janitor. This is also the area where you are introduced to Control’s optional missions. Make sure to check out our Control Side Mission guide so you don’t miss any abilities.

After you meet the janitor he will introduce you to wave of new objectives before giving you clearance to access level 2 doors and areas. Moving on, check out our Clearance Level 3 guide.

When you first reach the Central Maintenance area where the Field Training Room is found, the room is blocked off by a red mist of Hiss. At first, it’s unclear whether or not you can progress or if you need a new skill or ability before you can enter.

How To Enter The Field Training Room In Control

Thankfully, if you have the Launch ability, you can enter straight away. In the immediate area you will find several much smaller red pockets of Hiss. They are covering the speakers and a plant in the vicinity. Using your Launch ability, toss an object at the Hiss to destroy it. Once you have destroyed all three pieces of red Hiss in the area, the door will be cleared and you can go on through.

Numbered terminals, punch cards, how do you solve this? This Control HRA Lab Machine Puzzle Guide will walk you through the HRA Machine puzzle during the Old Boys’ Club mission as part of the main story campaign in Control.

Firstly, run around the lab and pick up all the punch cards. Small yellow cards scattered across the floor, they are tough to miss. Once you have collected them all, there are 5 in total, look at the different terminals. There are also 5 terminals. Each terminal has a number clearly written on one side.

Control HRA Lab Machine Puzzle Guide

There are three whiteboards in the lab. Two in the main area and one upstairs, these give you a slight clue as to where each of the punch cards go. Carefully check each of the whiteboards as they reveal the correct card for at least one of the terminals.

Using the information on whiteboard #1, we can figure out the punch cards for terminal 2 and terminal 3.

The information in the second whiteboard shows you the cards used in terminal 1 and terminal 5.

The final whiteboard shows you the card for terminal 4.

So, the final solution is to place the following cards into the associated numbered terminal.

Bureau Alerts are special timed missions in Control, tied to First on Scene and Crisis Management achievements. This Control Bureau Alert Guide will tell you where you can discover the special missions, how to unlock them, and what you must do to complete them.

There are several different types of missions in Control. You have your regular story missions, side missions, Bureau Countermeasures, and Bureau Alerts. The latter works very different to the rest, forcing a time restriction and a level of randomness to the encounters.

Control Bureau Alert Guide

All Control Bureau missions are given at random times. You may just finish an objective or reach a certain location and the mission will appear. It appears as an alert. A loud noise plays and the mission is introduced on the screen. All Bureau Alert missions are under a 20 minute timer. If you die while you have the mission or you don’t get to the mission in time, it fails. You cannot manually restart the mission again.

If you fail a mission, there are other opportunities for the same mission to appear later, but it’s not guaranteed. They are typically more difficult than most of the other content so go in prepared and be cautious.

As you continue through Control you will need higher and higher security clearance. This guide tells you How To Get Clearance Level 3 In Control so you’re able to retrace your steps and enter all of the Clearance Level 3 locked security doors to find yourself some new mods and rewards.

Almost all of the rooms locked behind security doors that require a Clearance Level are worth exploring. Some of them contain entrances to other areas while some house some really useful and powerful mods. The Clearance Level is mostly tied to story progression, you can’t miss the first three, but it’s worth going out of your way to retrace your steps and open the doors you couldn’t open previously.

How To Get Clearance Level 3 In Control

As with the previous versions of the Clearance Levels, this one is another one that is unlocked via natural progression in the story. You cannot miss this. At the very end of Mission 3, when you return to the Executive area, Pope informs you that Marshal went to the Research Sector. At this point, she tells you that you will require Clearance Level 3 to access the area, which is when she presents you with the appropriate card.

You can now progress with the story and enter all areas that require Clearance Level 3. Read on further for details on Clearance Level 4.

There’s always a concern with mechanics like this, will I miss it? Can I get it if I do? Luckily however, much like the past three levels of Clearance in Control, you cannot miss the Clearance Level 4. It is tied directly to the main story, so if you keep progressing, you will eventually unlock it, guaranteed.

How To Get Clearance Level 4 In Control

Clearance Level 4 is available after you complete Mission 4, the Old Boys’ Club. At the end of this mission you must solve a puzzle, then you speak with someone once it is solved. During the conversation she tells you your next objective and informs you that you will need higher level clearance. She then proceeds to give you Clearance Level 4 access.

Clearance Level 5 is another you can’t miss, near the end of Mission 5.

Mods are a fantastic way of customizing your main character and weapons in Control. This Control Personal & Weapons Mod Guide covers everything you need to know about mods. How you find them, the different rarities of mods, and how they can be used to enhance abilities.

There are two main types of Mods in Control. There are Personal Mods and Weapon Mods. Personal Mods are equipped to the main character and focus entirely on stats relating to your abilities, health, and attacks. Weapon Mods work much the same way but they attach to weapons and always offer effects to boost a particular weapons stats and abilities.

Control Personal & Weapons Mod Guide

There are many ways to find both types of mods. Enemies can drop them randomly, Board Countermeasure missions reward random mods, all of the safe rooms feature at least a single mod chest and all of the rooms that require Clearance Levels also house at least one mod chest. You can also craft your own mods using the Astral Constructs option at any Control Point. Mods can be equipped and removed, and dismantled for currency.

Typically, a higher level version of a mod is always better than the lower level version. Below is a list of the different rarities of mods in control.

  • I – Common
  • II – Uncommon
  • III – Rare
  • IV – Prime
  • V – Absolute

The higher tier mods become very common late in the game so don’t waste too much of your materials on the mod crafting, unless you’re really in a fix.

Abilities play an important role in Control. They allow you to dispatch of your enemies quicker and increase your survivability in combat, furthermore, many achievements and in-game missions require you to use specific abilities in certain ways.

How To Unlock All Abilities In Control

How To Unlock Launch Ability
The Launch ability lets you use telekinetic powers to pick up objects and hurl them at enemies. It is unlocked during the very first mission, it’s part of the story and one you cannot miss. It’s after you cleanse the first Object of Power.

How To Unlock Evade Ability
The Evade ability allows you to dodge attacks. It can be used both on ground to avoid dangerous enemy abilities and in the air, allowing you to traverse greater distances with a single jump. You unlock the Evade ability once you complete A Merry Chase Side mission during Mission 3.

How To Unlock Shield Ability
The Shield ability allows you to use kinetic energy to form a shield of rubble directly in front of you. Can be a great ability when faced with snipers and other slow but heavy hitting units. You unlock the shield ability by completing the A Good Defense side mission.

How To Unlock Compel Ability
The Compel, or Seize, ability let’s you take control over a weakened enemy. Once an enemy is at approximately 15% health, a small button icon appears. You can hold this button to Seize the will of the enemy and have them fight by your side. This is unlocked by completing the A Captive Audience side mission.

How To Unlock Levitate Ability
Levitate is the final ability you unlock if you complete the side missions at the right time. However, it is only the second ability (alongside Launch) that is given in the story and cannot be missed. Avoiding any spoilers, you will unlock Levitate during Mission 6. It cannot be missed.
