In order to equip a Buddy, you must first have unlocked the Buddy by gathering enough Buddy Points. You can check the current progress on any Buddy by viewing the Buddy Register in the main menu. After you have completed the first 2-3 memory dungeons, you should start receiving prompts informing you when you have unlocked a brand new Buddy.Once you have unlocked a new buddy, you have to wait until you are out of a dungeon. You cannot change Buddy or equip a new Buddy whilst you are in a dungeon environment. Either exit via the stairs or kill the boss before opening the main menu and selecting Buddy Registry.
Now find the monster you want and follow the prompt in the lower right to confirm the selection.
