Found a creature or animal in Atlas that you want to make your own? This How To Tame Creatures On Atlas guide will cover a very simple but effective technique at taming creatures you encounter with methods that work well on both PvE and PvP servers.

Regardless of whether you’re playing on PvE or PvP servers, animals undergoing the taming process are vulnerable to attack from other players. Depending on the server you’re playing, your environment and other factors, you may want to make the following design a little more defensive.

How To Tame Creatures On Atlas

Before you attempt to tame anything, you need to make a Taming Pen. These are not specific structures in-game, they are custom structures that you place with the sole purpose of trapping animals inside so you can tame. The design can be totally different depending on personal taste, but it needs to have several elements to be successful. You can always just tame animals out in the wilderness but this is safer and faster.

When building your Taming Pen, you will need:

  • Fully Enclosed
  • Large Gate at front for animals to enter
  • Small door at the back for you to exit
  • Windows or ceiling hatches to shoot through

This is ours. You get an animal to follow you into the large gates, close them. Exit out the back door, close it. You then need to lower the creatures HP to about 20% and hit it with a Bola. You can craft Bola’s on Looms if you have the skill. Once you hit them with a Bola, approach it and it will tell you what food it requires. You place that food into the last slot of your hotbar and press E to feed it.

After a short period it will break out of the Bola’s. Repeat the steps until it’s 100%.

So you’ve claimed your territory, begun building a house but there’s no doorframe? This guide will tell you How To Place Doors In Atlas, which uses a very simple toggle mechanic in the game that lets you switch out between the different items you can craft.

There are many different types of materials you can use to craft a house. In the early stages you will likely only be using basic stuff. However, the process of building different types of walls, windows, door frames, it’s all the same, once you figure it out, it’s easy.

How To Place Doors In Atlas

You need to have a Floor in place, usually you can only build in an area you have claimed. You cannot claim areas to build on in Freeports or Lawless zones, so you need to be in an area outside of those. Once your Floor is in place, build a wall but don’t place it right away.

Place the wall where you want your door to go. In the lower left of the screen it will give you an option to press T. This changes the wall type to Doorframe, Window, etc. Make a doorframe, make a door and there you have it. That’s How To Place Doors In Atlas.

So you’ve finally built a raft and headed out to the open sea, but you’re going the wrong way. This guide will tell you How To Control & Change Raft & Boat Direction In Atlas, as although it’s a very simple system, if you don’t know where to look, it can be confusing.

Once you’ve visiting a dock and built your raft, you can set out and explore the open seas. There are two main aspect to traversing the open ocean on a boat, controlling your sails and gauging the best way to use the wind.

How To Control & Change Raft & Boat Direction In Atlas

When you are on your boat, look at the upper right of the screen. You will see an icon of your boat, a white arrow and a green semi-circle. The white arrow is the wind. The direction it’s pointing is the direction it is blowing, the size of the arrow represents the power of the wind.

Go to your sail and inspect the mast below it. You can press E here. This is where you drop your sails, you can also change the direction of your sails. That is how you change the direction your boat travels. You want the semi-circle to remain green if possible, as this is maximum speed, the more you fight the wind, the slower you go and the circle turns red.

Stuck at level 8 in Lawless or Freeport zones in Atlas? This guide will tell you How To Get Past Level 8 In Atlas as restrictions are in place that limit the amount of experience points you earn and the levels you can reach in the starter areas, known as Freeports and Lawless zones.

Nearly every activity in Atlas, from exploration to crafting, earns you experience points. Once you’ve earned enough experience points, you can level up your character or level up your ship. However, you may notice a message at the bottom of the screen that reads.

You have reached the maximum Level (8) for a Freeport. You must explore new Regions to continue to advance.

How To Get Past Level 8 In Atlas

In order to level up past level 8, you need to reach an area that is NOT a Freeport or a Lawless area. Press I and open up your Atlas. You should see a large map, from there click the globe icon in the lower right. That will turn on the grids. Now you can see what grid you are in.

After you find your location check the Discoveries tab. In the top right of the Discoveries tab you can change the region. Simply change it until you find a nearby region that does not have Lawless or Freeport. It will look like this:

So you’ve killed yourself some wildlife and got some meat, what’s next? This guide will tell you How To Cook Food & Meat In Atlas as, if you’ve not played ARK: Survival Evolved, the cooking system may appear a little strange.

As with any cooking system, you first need materials. This is a basic guide that will just focus on cooking meat from animals, as there’s more complex recipes later in the game. Once you’ve killed your animal you need to harvest it for resources, using a pick axe or a hatchet, whichever gets you more of the resources you need.

How To Cook Food & Meat In Atlas

Once you’ve got your fill of meat or fish (really helps with blue vitamin), you need to build a camp fire. Once your camp fire is built place all of your uncooked meat onto the camp fire by opening its inventory with E. The order you place is the order it is cooked, so if you want your fish cooked first, put them into the fire first.

Next you need to place fuel on the fire. Wood is the most common and accessible fuel on the starting islands. Place enough fuel to keep it going for a while, 20-30 logs should do it. Then select Light Fire. This will light the fire and cook the food over time.

Be careful, even on PvE servers people are able to interact with your campfire and take any items from its inventory.

So, you’ve built your first raft, gathering your food supplies and vitamins and taken to the high seas. This guide will tell you How To Level Up Rafts & Ships In Atlas as, much like your character, rafts and boats earn experience points and can level up and unlock new improvements.

Once you have built a raft or boat, you can continue to build on it and improve it. As you use your boat, exploring the vast oceans and checking out nearby islands, your raft or boat will earn experience points. You can check your progress to leveling with your boat in the upper right corner of the screen, when aboard your boat. Earn enough experience points and you will level up.

How To Level Up Rafts & Ships In Atlas

Once your boat has earned enough experience points, sit on your boat or raft. If you look down at the center of the raft, usually where you can repair, you will see the option to interact with E. You need to interact and then choose Ship Options. From there, you can level up your ship which lets you invest in one of 4 different states.

Do not Scuttle your ship as it gets destroyed.

Want to catch some fish for food or raise your blue Vitamin bar? This guide will tell you How To Fish In Atlas as it’s quite a unique combination of items and skills you need in order to craft a fishing rod and use it, or there’s an alternative method that’s much quicker and easier.

Firstly, it’s worth noting that at the moment, the actual fishing system seems bugged. So let’s dive into the method that works first. It’s simple, make yourself a spear. You can swim into the ocean with a spear and attack fish that way, before dragging them back to land to harvest their resources. This works easier from a boat as you tend to find fisher out in the deeper parts of the ocean but anywhere with an open body of water can contain fish.

How To Fish In Atlas

Now, what about the more traditional route, using a fishing rod? Firstly, you need to make an actual Fishing Rod. You will then also need some bait and a chair. To make the Fishing Rod, you need to unlock Tools of the Trade and then Advanced Tools in the Survivalism tree. You then need to unlock Construction in the same tree before unlocking Basics of Building in the Construction & Mercantilism tree.

Once you have those, place your chair. Now you need some bait for your rod. You can use sugar based items, such as Sugar Cane and Sap, found in abundance on the starting islands. Drag the bait to your rod. Now, place your Fishing Rod into slot 3 of your hotbar and sit on the chair. Look at the water, select your rod, a blue cursor appears. Left click to cast your rod.

There doesn’t appear to be any visual hint when you get a fish on the hook so the spear method is likely the easiest at the moment.

If your screen is dark or tinted green, it’s not a game issue, you need to eat certain vitamins. This guide will tell you How To Fix Dark & Green Screen In Atlas so you can head out to sea, prepared and have a much greater chances of survival.

When you are exploring the game world, crafting, fighting, anything you do reduces your hunger levels. However, unlike other survival games, hunger is not simply a matter of stuffing your face with as much food as possible. In Atlas, you also need to worry about the variety of the food.

How To Fix Dark & Green Screen In Atlas

There are four different Vitamin bars. These are marked by colored bars on the right of the screen, above the XP meter. These are Vitamin A, Vitamin B, Vitamin C and Vitamin D. Each has a color corresponding to the vitamin type. You need to eat food that matches that type.

For example, look at a piece of food in your inventory. It will have a colored arrow matching the color of one of the Vitamins. Eating that food increases that bar. As such, if you are suffering from side effects such as a dark or green screen, you need to eat certain foods.

Constantly running of out water and can’t figure out how to drink it? This basic guide will tell you How To Drink Water In Atlas as well as a basic trick on where to find water, as it’s not always as readily available as you would believe it would be, in a world covered in the stuff.

Firstly, let’s cover the most common problem. If you’re surrounded by water and you cannot drink it, it’s likely salt water. You cannot drink water directly from the sea, or any large bodies of water with a direct link to the nearby ocean. This is due to the health risks of drinking salt water. With that out the way, let’s figure out where to find and how to drink water.

How To Drink Water In Atlas

Drinking water in Atlas is easy. You simply go to a body of water and press E. You must be looking down at the water, crouching often works best. As long as the water is not salt water, you should be able to drink it. You can also craft a Water Skin that lets you carry water with you, once you’ve filled it up at a water source. They do “leak” water overtime so even if you don’t drink from it, it will need refilling.

On most of the starting islands there is a large tiki type statue/rock carving with a face on it. This is always near a small body of water so if you can see it, head there.

There is another way of finding water. You can actually find water in many places, assuming you are in a “green” area. Apparently you can crouch down, look at the floor and press X, then attempt to dig for water. It only works on grassy and green areas. If you are in the wrong area, you will have a prompt appear on screen.
